Howard Covington was a good boy, at least according to what his mother had to say. He attended Saint James Church in Conway, South Carolina, where he was baptized and later received his First Holy Communion and Confirmation. He was a soldier of Christ, and during his junior and senior high school years, he was an altar boy and helped the parish priest celebrate mass every Sunday and holy day of obligation. He even thought at one point that he might want to become a priest and serve God the rest of his life. Then something changed in Howard and he went on a killing spree.
